OSAKA & KYOTO, JAPAN

Revisiting Osaka and Kyoto felt like reconnecting with old friends. I first explored these incredible cities when I graduated college and had the chance to discover Fukuoka last year (click here to see more from that trip). Returning to Osaka and Kyoto allowed me to revisit my favorite spots while discovering even more. Japan’s rich food culture and the kindness of its people continue to make it one of my favorite travel destinations. If you’re looking for the best places to visit in Japan, these cities should definitely be on your list!

OSAKA, JAPAN

I’ve always loved Japanese food, and Osaka took that passion to a whole new level. The warmth and kindness of the people here made every meal feel like a celebration. From the crispy, flavorful tempura at Uoshin Honten to the sweet, decadent treats at Candy Apple, I was constantly amazed by how every dish had its own unique twist. What really made Osaka special, though, was the way the food connected me to the city’s vibrant culture. It wasn’t just about eating; it was about experiencing a place through its flavors. This leg of the trip was a highlight, right behind the time I spent with my family in Korea. The food, the people, the energy—Osaka is a place that stays with you long after you’ve left.

KYOTO, JAPAN

Kyoto holds a special place in my heart, and it’s easy to see why. From the creamy matcha ice cream to the traditional udon and tempura at Otawa Saryo, the flavors here are unforgettable. The peaceful atmosphere combined with delicious food made the experience feel almost magical. What really stood out was the kindness of the locals and the beauty of the temples that made Kyoto feel so unique. It’s definitely a highlight of the trip, right up there with the time spent with my family in Korea.

Matcha Ice Cream (Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto, Japan): A simple but delightful treat, Kyoto's matcha ice cream is a 10/10 in flavor and quality.

Otawa Saryo (368 Yasukakaue-cho, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto, 605-0862, Japan): A perfect stop for a refreshing break, try the cold udon & tempura along with a traditional matcha service.

Kawa Kafe (176-1 Minoyacho, Matsubara Agaru, Kiyamachi Street, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan): Enjoy a delicious mango juice or iced matcha at Kawa Kafe, a relaxing spot in Kyoto for a quick pick-me-up.
